In 2009, Nauru had a population of approximately 10,000 people. Its economy was largely dependent on phosphate mining and foreign aid. The country had strong diplomatic relations with the US, European Union, Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) and other countries in the region. In terms of politics, Nauru was a parliamentary republic with a president elected by popular vote every three years. The legislative branch was made up of one chamber: the Parliament (Parliament), composed of 18 members elected by direct popular vote from among multi-member constituencies. See internetsailors for Nauru in the year of 2011.

Nauru. In January, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) gave the Naurus government a $ 225,000 grant to start a trust fund. The idea is for the fund to raise capital that will go towards the country’s development. According to countryaah, the money from ADB will also be used to develop the state financial system. This is the first direct aid to Nauru since the indebted country was close to bankruptcy in 2004 and the Australian government took over the finances and saved the economy. The Naurus government has since reformed state-owned companies, cut the number of government employees and lowered their salaries, which has strengthened the economy.
As late as the 1970s and 1980s, Nauru, thanks to its phosphate assets, was a welfare state with one of the world’s highest per capita incomes. But the export of phosphate, which is used as a fertilizer, had decreased sharply in the early 2000s when the phosphate began to run out. In 2008, phosphate mining resumed on a small scale, but Nauru is still dependent on foreign aid to meet state spending. See ABBREVIATIONFINDER for abbreviation NA which stands for the nation of Nauru.
In February, President Marcus Stephen said that the government would invest in increased openness and information to the public in order to increase transparency and thus overcome the widespread corruption. Stephen made the statement in connection with the inauguration of a seminar on freedom of information. He suggested that it may be relevant to legislate on freedom of information.
Climate
Due to the location of Naurus in the immediate vicinity of the equator, the temperatures are balanced all year round with a monthly average temperature of around 27.5 ° C. The trade winds bring year-round rainfall to the island, which averages 1900 mm per year. Agriculture is made considerably more difficult by the porous limestone, as the water seeps away very quickly.
The government has raised the urgency of the matter several times to the UN regarding the rising sea levels caused by climate change and has called for some meetings with the USA and other industrialized nations.
Shopping
Overview
The service in government stores and the quality of the goods are poor. Choice and quality are better in Chinese stores. There is no duty; electrical appliances, cigarettes and alcohol are therefore inexpensive.
Nightlife
Introduction
Nightlife takes place mainly in restaurants and bars. The only cinema is at the southern end of the island.

Almost all available food is imported canned food, and about a third of the population suffers from diet-related diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. There is some fish and sometimes beef available, but no local fruit or vegetables. Numerous restaurants offer international dishes, but they are rarely made from fresh produce. The Chinese restaurants offer a better range of food than the Nauruan ones.
